What's this? A blog post? And on my birthday, no less.
Well, anyway, my bro-in-law mentioned a deal he gets with his Discover card that doubles the warranty on anything he purchases with that card. I hope it works out for him. But this also got me thinking to those little perks we get in unexpected places.
1. Did you know that most surge protector power strips have a warranty on equipment attached to it. If a device you have attached to a power strip breaks due to a power surge (even from a lightening storm) you can file a warranty claim with the power strip's manufacturer. I had a friend who's laptop died in this way. He was able to get a few hundred dollars from it. They'll warrant up to $10,000 in many cases, but it's a deprecated value (i.e. if your device is X years old, they'll depreciate the value of the item and pay you that amount.)
2. Many credit cards have automobile related perks. One of which just might be insurance for a car rental. I.e. don't get the rental company's insurance plan, just utilize what is already on your credit card. (Check your card's details, YMMV).
3. Again with your credit card. You may have an amount of life insurance to your name with the card. Not really a benefit when you kick the bucket, but something of which your family may take advantage.
I know this is a small list, feel free to leave a comment on others that you are aware. Sometimes these "deals" aren't worth the hassle. (i.e. replacement watch if your $15 timepiece ever dies... but you have to ship the old one back and pay $24.95 for the shipping and handling of the replacement. ... Yah, I've seen that.)

Getting into the Christmas spirit
For the past several years, Christmas has come and gone for me. Sort of like my birthdays. It's a nice holiday, but so commercialized... blah, blah, blah. Really, though, it just sort of sneaks up on me.
Well, I've started a little early this year. From assisting the stake's production of Savior of the World - His Birth and Resurrection to going to the Messiah sing-along, I'm getting a little bit of a head start. Perhaps it won't surprise me like most of the other holidays this year.
In any case, here's a cool video! (Somebody has a lot of time on their hands ;^)

Obama care
In an idiotic move, the House passed the Health Care reform bill late on a Saturday night. What can we do? Because our elected leaders are obviously not listening to us.
It is telling that Pelosi (can you not find a more stupid person in a position for an intelligent person?) likened this passage to the passage of Social Security and Medicare. Look, the working class are paying for the current Social Security payments. That was not how it was supposed to work. It was supposed to work that you paid into your own Social Security payments. Soon the working class will be paying for last years Social Security payments... and it's going to get worse. FAILED social program #1. And Medicare. That program, while beneficial to our senior citizens is so fraught with fraud it is amazing. That program also spends out more and more every year. FAILED social program #2. I liken what they are trying to do to the Education system. FAILED social program #3. Why is it failed? They keep throwing money at it and yet acknowledge that our kids are falling behind the rest of the world. The citizen has to pay for public school even if they have no kids. And if their kid goes to private school, they get docked twice, once for private school and once for the public school tax.
The details of this bill are downright scary! It's not advisable, but it is currently a choice not to be insured. Under this bill you will pay to have insurance or pay not to have insurance.
On a more personal note. The passage of this bill may hurt the medical industry in Louisville pretty severely. With the auto industry not doing so well and then the medical industry, this town will need to find something else. I guess alcoholism and gambling is the next industry in line here. :-p (Not that I advocate either one.)
Did these idiots not learn from the former Soviet Union that socialism does not work! The USofA ran the USSR bankrupt because the free market proves a better way.
I will accept socialism, as long as it comes with the United Order. I will only accept the United Order as long as Jesus is the head of it. And that's not going to happen until He comes again (which can't be too soon! ... so repent! :^)

Halloween Sugar Rush
I've rediscovered ArmorGames.com which has some really decent quality flash games. Better than a lot of other sites. Anyway, here is a Halloween themed game that is pretty fun to play: Halloween Sugar Rush! (Keep those darn kids off your lawn!)

The New World Under Obama
While listening to Rush Limbaugh today, he played quotes from our errant President Obama while he was speaking to the UN (I think). Anyway, one of the things I thought I had blogged about, but I guess I've only mentioned it to Noelle in conversation, is about the US-Israel relationship and my thoughts about the "last days".
In reading about the last days in the book of Revelations, it seems to me that Israel is going to be surrounded by enemies, but there will be two prophets that guide Israel's armies to protect the Israelites until they themselves were slaughtered and, three days later (hmm), resurrected and taken into heaven. It was always my belief that the United States would always be there for Israel to protect them.
Since Obama became president, my fear is that they would not be protected. Obama has confirmed my fear in his speech yesterday.
Baron Hill
In a very humorous video on YouTube, Baron Hill, one of Indiana's Representatives in the Congress, he claims that the Town Hall meeting is his, which I will grant him. But he does state, "this is my Town Hall meeting for you." That starts to get very iffy.
He then goes on to say "you're not goin' to tell me how to run my congressional office." Umm, Mr. Baron Hill? I have a question for you, and for Madam Barbara Boxer and all other "Representatives". To whom do you "Represent"? Is it yourself, your state, your monetary supporters, or the people of your state? Did you earn this position or did the people give you this position? Politicians... get your head out of the sand. The People give you the ability to govern the land. You did not earn this. You have no expectation of continued service. You must represent the people and govern the land based on what's good for the people. And you are not exempt from the policies you make. The People are getting tired of it.
